Tyron Lam, 6, dreams of national duties
KLAS Taekwondo had its last grading for the year as it nears the Christmas Holidays.
Twenty-nine students of the KLAS Dojo performed before their parents as their Instructors Tapunu'u Kaino Thomsen Fuataga and brother Fritz Thomsen Fuataga judged the students.
The class also welcomed some new white belts and among them was six-year-old Tyron Lam aspiring to become a Taekwondo Champion representing Samoa on the world stage someday.
"I like Taekwondo and I do it with my sisters. My mum asked me if I wanted to do Taekwondo and I said I wanted to," he said.
"I want to one day represent Samoa in Taekwondo"
Toilolo Tyron Lam, his father, is happy to see that his children are active and having fun in Taekwondo.
"I wanted to get my kids into an environment of discipline and keep them active. Out of all the sport we've taken them to this is the most active sport they enjoy," he said.
"My son Tyron loves it, it's only been a few months joining Taekwondo and he loves it. All he does at home is learn his basic stance and all his techniques. This even got his sisters to join in for the classes."
Young Tyron shows a lot of promise in his Taekwondo performance and is testament to how well Kaino and his brother Fritz look after the young ones of their dojo.
"They got the basics down and to see them put in the effort is enough. The students did well and followed through with what they were supposed to do," he said.
A lot of the children show much more confidence compared to when they first joined. Every move they made was impressive and had the parents applauding their firm discipline.
"It builds your confidence, even the actions and the forms and kicking really bring out your potential while performing in front of your parents and the judges," he said.
Tapunuu Kaino wishes his class a very merry Christmas and is ecstatic for the plans set in place for the upcoming Pacific Games. He shared that the Dojo will be training the potential Taekwondo reps to the Pacific Games and is confident that his students will bring home the gold for Samoa.
