The Australian Survivor reality television series shot in Samoa this year over a 2-3 month period will hit Australian screens in January 2023.

Australian media reports said Channel 10 will premiere its new format Australian Survivor: Heroes V Villains on 30 January 2023 in Australia with the contestants including Australian actress and dancer Sharni Vinson and former Miss World Australia Sarah Marschke.

A trailer of the reality TV series, which was shot in Samoa between August and October this year at different sites on Upolu Island, was unveiled by Channel 10 last month and featured the show's 53-year-old host Jonathan LaPaglia.

"In the game of survivor who does it better, a hero or a villain?" Mr. LaPaglia said in the promo video. "And we are back to where it all began, Samoa!"

The drone video footage used in the trailer showed crystal clear water with the familiar black volcanic rock that lined the southern coast of Upolu. The footage appeared to have been shot around the Matareva Beach Resort, which was one of the major sites the film production crew used for the shoot.

The reality TV series was last shot in Samoa in 2016 and 2017 with fans of the show welcoming its return to the island.

During the shooting in Samoa this year, a number of Samoa's major hotels benefited from the 2-3 months of production, with the crew taking up accommodation at Return to Paradise Resort and Spa and the Sheraton Beach Resort.

The Australian production company also paid SAT$20,000 to the village council that had rights over a scenic area of Upolu's south coast, which included the Matareva Beach Resort.

But their stay in Samoa during the shoot was not trouble-free either with the local Police investigating the theft of electronic equipment owned by the production company in September this year. Some of the items that were allegedly stolen included cameras, telephones and laptops. It is not known if the stolen items were ever retrieved.
